This Time It’s Personal – Beautycounter and Why I Choose to Be Counter

March 1, 2019
Everyone who is involved with or has heard of Beautycounter has a story, and I’m no different. I was introduced to Beautycounter just after my daughter was born. A close family friend sent me Beautycounter’s baby gift set. Having never heard of the company, I looked it up and spent one too many nights going down a rabbit hole of information regarding the beauty industry. I quickly realized that I, too, had to make a change in the products I was using on myself. Over the course of the next couple of months, I made the full switch from my previous designer brand makeup and skincare and haven’t looked back since.

Beautycounter is a Movement:

What I love about Beautycounter is that it is a mission-based company and a wellness brand with a bold ambition: to get safer beauty and personal care products into the hands of everyone. When Beautycounter began working on cosmetics reform six years ago, consumer awareness of the issue was virtually nonexistent. Given that the United States hasn’t passed a major federal law regulating the cosmetics industry since 1938, this is something we should all be concerned about. Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more such products. Canada has restricted or banned 600 ingredients. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date. Beautycounter has its own Never List which includes 1,500 chemicals that have been linked to hormone disruption and infertility. Your skin is your biggest organ and most people would be shocked/disgusted at just how many chemicals are in traditional brands of skincare and makeup.

Beautycounter is a Certified B-Corp:

Certified B-Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. With a recent updated Certified B-Corporation score of 95, Beautycounter is committed to safer products, sustainability, charitable giving, advocacy, and transparency.

Hopefully, Beautycounter’s mission and products resonate with you and you’ll give them a shot. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about the products and/or the business (this is an incredible company that’s extremely flexible and fun!). Please check out the website and shop via my personal page: www.beautycounter.com/melissafossum to see all of the products and find out more about the company (you can also select me – Melissa Fossum – as your consultant at checkout). Men – you too should take the plunge! My husband has been using these products by my side for years and is also a big fan, especially since Beautycounter released Counterman.

If you want to know more, here’s a link to a quick 3-minute video on the company and this link will take you to a Beautycounter segment on The Today Show.

Whether you’re ready to make a change or just want to get to know the company better, you can subscribe to my Beautycounter email list. I’ll let you know about promotions, sales, and personal perks for my clients, but I promise you won’t be seeing my name in your inbox on a daily basis.
